About the F/A 18E Super Hornet
The F18 Super Hornet was one of the first aircrafts constructed by the merged Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. The aircraft was an improved twin-engine multirole fighter that had a single-seat capacity (the F/A-18F was the two-seat version). As one of the later variants of the F/A-18 Hornet, the F/A-18E was introduced in 1995 together with the F-model. However, the design concept of the Super Hornet actually traces back to January 1988. During that time, McDonnell Douglas had begun its Hornet 2000 program, which was developing an advanced variant of the Hornet. Among the intended changes were a larger wing set-up, a longer fuselage, and, of course, a more powerful engine. The Hornet 2000 gained momentum when it was pushed to replace the canceled McDonnell Douglas A-12 Avenger II program. The A-12 was meant to create a plane to replace the A-6 Intruder and the A-7 Corsair II. Thus, the Super Hornet came to replace these two planes instead. When the F/A-18E was officially rolled out in 1997 and it boasted notable firepower on top of improved avionics and high fuel capacity. Armed with a 20mm gun and carry air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, the F-18s were proved itself as fierce fighter aircraft.
